E-tv has entered a major content licensing partnership with Netflix, opening a new lane for South African stories to reach viewers across Africa.
According to eMedia, the deal will make select E-tv original productions available on Netflix. This means some local shows will no longer be limited to free-to-air television audiences. They will also be able to reach streaming viewers across the continent.
The partnership starts with E-tv’s new daily drama, The Four of Us.
The Four of Us Leads the Deal
The Four of Us premiered on E-tv on 29 June 2026. It then launched on Netflix the following day, 30 June 2026.
Under the agreement, new episodes of the drama will be available on Netflix across Africa within 24 hours of their E-tv broadcast.
The show airs on E-tv at 20:00 on weekdays. Episodes will then become available on Netflix the next day from 09:00.
eMedia described the series as a family drama centred on the Dhlomo family, where old wounds, power struggles and long-held resentment threaten to tear the family apart.
The cast includes Sindi Dlathu, Sdumo Mtshali, Thembinkosi Mthembu and other established and rising South African talent.
A Big Move for Local Television
The series now holds E-tv’s prime 20:00 weekday slot, which was previously occupied by Scandal! for 23 years.
It also marks Tshedza Pictures’ first project for E-tv.
For South African viewers, the deal points to a shift in how local television content moves beyond traditional broadcasting.
eMedia said the agreement shows how free-to-air broadcasters and global streaming platforms can work together instead of only competing for audiences.
Netflix Deepens African Content Push
eMedia chief content officer Marlon Davids said the partnership allows E-tv to take its content further while still serving free-to-air audiences.
Netflix’s vice president of content for the Middle East and Africa, Ben Amadasun, said the agreement marks a new chapter in the platform’s commitment to South African storytelling.
eMedia said The Four of Us is the first title announced under the deal, with more opportunities expected to be explored over time.
