Viewers of Durban Gen were left shocked by the changes in the drama series on Monday, 3 October.
The show’s second season was extended and jumped straight to the lives of characters five years later. And, viewers took to Twitter to express their confusion.
Social media user Brian Thandanani said: “#durbanGen five years later. What a joke.”
Another user Hlumisa said: “Durban Gen is another version of Uzalo. It’s already five years late. Siphi na? Hayi yiwishiwishi mntakabawo.”
Then Odwa Mgudlwa commented: “I am not happy with the new storyline ye Durban Gen. A lot of things are just offish. Mbali’s storyline … and didn’t the interns go to new provinces?”
Viewers also saw the characters of Dr Mbali Mthethwa (Nelisiwe Sibiya) being embroiled in the confusion between Western and traditional medicine.
“A fully-fledged sangoma conflicted between traditional vs Western medicine,” posted e.tv on Twitter.
Additionally, Thabo (Meshack Mavuso) and Dr Zondo (Fanele Ntuli) are married five years later, but there’s a lack of trust between them.
Viewers were also shocked by Phumeza’s progress. Portrayed by Tsidi Makitle, she’s the new matron and has two kids with her husband, Sibiya (Mthandeni Mbambo).
Another character is that of Dr Jack (Yola Plaatjie), and viewers will see the success in her life.
“Jack is a senior doctor. The couple is now engaged to be married,” said e.tv referring to Jack and Calvin (Bhekisizwe Mahlawe) as a couple.
Durban Gen was cancelled in May following the channel’s review, and viewers were expected to watch it until January. Last Friday was the last episode of the second season before it was extended.
