Duma ka Ndlovu, a well-known filmmaker, is in legal trouble over serious financial issues.
The tax authority claims Ka Ndlovu misrepresented his income and that of his company, Ambrobrite, resulting in R25-million in unpaid taxes.
Two others, Rodney Mutsharini and Maxwell Mloyi, are accused of assisting Ka Ndlovu in hiding money.
On Monday, police attempted to arrest Ka Ndlovu at his home, but he was flying from Durban to Johannesburg. He later turned himself in.
All three appeared in court on Tuesday.
Athol Williams revealed that Bain paid Ka Ndlovu’s company R3.6-million annually for advisory services. Williams found this unusual, as such high fees typically go to seasoned executives rather than artists.
Court papers allege that Ka Ndlovu’s company received R8.4-million from Bain over several years, with no apparent work being done.
If found guilty, Ka Ndlovu could face a hefty fine or up to two years in jail.
