Duduzile Zuma recently made a statement that has caused several heads to turn during her appearance in the Durban High Court.

The daughter of prominent politician Jacob Zuma recently made her court appearance in connection with the July unrest, which took place in KwaZulu-Natal in 2021.

At the time, a wide outbreak of violence erupted following the imprisonment of her father, and has since resulted in millions of rands’ worth of damage due to violence, looting, and the vandalising of property.

Duduzile is accused of encouraging the acts and is facing charges under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act and incitement to commit violence.

During her recent court appearance on Thursday, the 42-year-old entered in good spirits. However, it was her attire that seemingly caught the attention of many.

She entered the dock wearing a provocative T-shirt containing the words, “Modern Day Terrorist”.

Internet users have since occupied social media platforms to share their thoughts, with many accusing her of becoming an attention seeker.

One person wrote:

She love the attention and clout this one

While another added:

I hope she gets arrested and learns her lesson

Despite this, she has since refused to allow public opinions to let her spirits down and instead, thanked her loyal followers for their support on the day.

In a post of her own shared on Instagram, she wrote, “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for the unwavering support today. At the end of the day, I’m a good woman, no matter what people say. I’m not perfect by any means, my heart is pure, and I love hard with everything I have.”

Her trial is set to take place from 10 – 21 November this year.
