Ngizwe Mchunu, previously a strong supporter of former president Jacob Zuma and a key figure in the 2021 July unrest that battered KZN, revealed that he chose not to join the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party because Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, insulted him.
Mchunu, who leads the Bhinca nation, shared on his TikTok page that Duduzile called him a “motherf**ker,” which made him decide against joining the party.
Shortly before the 29 May general elections, Mchunu surprised many by switching his support to ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.
He organised a maskandi music event at People’s Park in Durban to disrupt an MK rally in Johannesburg.
He aimed to stop his supporters from attending Zuma’s event and instead have Ramaphosa address them.
However, his plan failed, and many were angry at Mchunu for betraying Zuma, who had supported him during his court case in Randburg.
Mchunu has been fighting with Duduzile since he saw her laughing with Ramaphosa in parliament.
He also accused the MK of planning to loot Ithala Bank, claiming that former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu joining the party indicates they are planning something similar to the VBS bank scandal.
Mavis MaShandu, leader of the KZN MK Women’s Command, criticised Mchunu for attacking women to regain his popularity.
“When men like him are frustrated, they start targeting women. We urge him to respect Duduzile, who is a leader in her own right and has nothing to do with his issues,” said MaShandu.
