DStv keeps 12 popular channels after last-minute deal, but four still face cancellation

DStv subscribers received a last-minute reprieve as the satellite TV provider confirmed that 12 well-known channels will continue broadcasting into 2026, overturning earlier reports of an imminent shutdown.

The channels, which include Discovery Channel, TLC, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, CNN International, Food Network, The Travel Channel, TNT, Investigation Discovery, Real Time, HGTV, and Discovery Family, were initially scheduled to go off air at midnight on 31 December 2025.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela confirmed the development on X, explaining that a new multi-year agreement between Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery was finalized just hours before the deal was set to lapse.

“DStv to keep 12 TV channels set to shut down tonight. Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery have finally signed a new multi-year deal that will keep 12 TV channels on DStv. The agreement also includes HBO content on M-Net and the rollout of the HBO Max streamer in Africa in 2026,” Mphela tweeted.

While fans celebrated the news online, not all channels were saved.

Four channels from Paramount Africa and CBS AMC, namely Bet_Africa, CBS Justice, CBS Reality, and MTV Base Africa will still be removed from DStv’s lineup.
