Dr. Dre joins Jay Z on Forbes list of billionaire rappers

Forbes Magazine has crowned Dr. Dre its latest billionaire hip hop artist this week.

The 61-year-old rapper and music mogul is the second rapper to earn the accolade after Jay Z did the same in 2019.

The latest Forbes report says Jay Z has since more than doubled his fortune thanks to his lucrative liquor businesses.

Jay Z’s fortune stands at $2.8 billion (R45.97 billion) today.

The Still D.R.E. and Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang rapper also launched the careers of other great rappers such as Eminem, Snoop, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar through his record labels, Death Row Records and Aftermath Entertainment.

Dr Dre co-founded Beats Electronics and Beats Music with Jimmy Iovine in 2006, the company that created headphones known as Beats by Dre. Beats Electronics and Beats Music were acquired by Apple Inc. in 2014 for a reported $3 billion (R49.26 billion).

Dr. Dre, the family man

Dr. Dre, whose real name is André Romelle Young, has created a big family.

He reportedly has ten children, including firstborn Curtis, born to Cassandra Greene.

Marcel is the son he had with singer Michel’le.

He had LaTanya, LaToya, and Ashley with ex-girlfriend Lisa Johnson.

With LaVetta Washington, the rapper had Tyra.

His late son Andre Young Jr. was with Jenita Porter.

From his marriage to ex-wife Nicole Young, he fathered her son Tyler Young from a previous relationship, and together they had Truice and a daughter, Truly. Their marriage lasted from 1996 until their divorce in 2021.
