DR Congo international Jody Lukoki has sadly passed away at the age of 29.
The winger who began his senior career at Ajax Amsterdam also had spells at PEC Zwolle, Ludogorets in Bulgaria, Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor and most recently FC Twente.
However, Lukoki passed away on Monday with the cause of his death unknown, but some reports claiming he was stabbed to death.
“The club is shocked and deeply moved by this tragic event,” Twente said in a statement.
“FC Twente sympathizes with his loved ones and wishes them a lot of strength in processing this great loss.”
Lukoki had joined Twente on a two-year deal in June, but suffered a serious knee injury during pre-season.
His contract with the Dutch side got terminated in February, with the club stating “events in his personal life” as reason.
Lukoki represented the Netherlands at youth level, but made three appearances for DR Congo at senior level – the last in a friendly against Burkina Faso in 2020.
We, at iDiski Times, express our condolence to Lukoki’s friends and family.
