Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi gave an update on Erwin Saavedra and Lebohang Maboe ahead of CAF Champions League matchday four against Al Ahly SC this weekend.
Bolivia international Erwin Saavedra was injured during matchday two of CAF Champions league against Sudanese giants Al Merrikh SC in which they drew 1-1 in Cairo.
While Saavedra has yet to feature for the club since, Maboe returned in their mid-week 6-0 win over ABC Motsepe League side Mathaithai in the Nedbank Cup.
“First on Saavedra I can not confirm now but he’s back in training we are hopeful he will make it but still depends on how he does in the next two days,” Manqoba said in the pre-match press conference.
“As for Lebohang Maboe he’s on that stage where he plays given a chance but we are still a little bit cautious because he’s two months ahead of time in terms of what we expected of him.
“There’s still a feeling of not wanting to push him too much but there’s also a feeling that the boy looks like he’s ready to give us something so we will have to decide that as coaches but at this stage.
“I cannot confirm whether he will be in the team or not but he’s looking very good I must say.”
Sundowns will host the African champion at FNB Stadium with kickoff for the Group A clash set at 15h00 on Saturday afternoon.
