Downs Star Named CAFCL Player Of The Week

Mamelodi Sundowns utility man Thapelo Morena has been named the CAF Champions League Player Of The Week after his goal and assist against CR Belouizdad.

Masandawana booked their place in the semi-final for the first time in four campaigns, after failing at the quarter-final hurdle for the last three seasons.

Morena once again proved his strength against North African side, when Masandawana hosted the Algerian champions in the CAFCL quarter-final second leg. 

The former Bloemfontein Celtic winger was too hot to handle for Belouizdad as he laid an assist for Themba Zwane to score the equaliser in the first half after Belouizdad had taken the lead against the run of play.

Morena then netted the winner less than five minutes into the second half. 

The 29-year-old has already scored three goals in this season’s CAF Champions League campaign, including the preliminary rounds.

He scored in the 8-1 home win over La Passe and also netted in the 2-2 draw in Egypt against Al Ahly in the group stages, before his fine performance this weekend.
