Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United are back in South Africa’s most prestigious youth tournament Bayhill Premier Cup.

The Bayhill Premier Cup is an under 19 tournament that takes place every year during the Easter weekend in Cape Town.

This tournament has previously been a first stage to shine for a lot of talent across the country.

The tournament was heavily affected by Covid-19 two years ago and teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Wits University couldn’t come down to Cape Town.

Recently, the draw for the 2023 edition was done in the Cape Town, with the return of both Pretoria sides Sundowns and SuperSport United confirmed.

Matsatsantsa were drawn in Group D alongside newcomers Hungry Lions, Rygersdal FC and Hazendal United AFC.

Meanwhile, Downs are in Group F with Virginia Sport Academy, Queens Park FC and Young Bafana Academy. The two Tshwane sides both last participated in the competition back in 2019 before Covid-19.

The defending champions ,Cape Town Spurs saw themselves drawn in Group H with the likes of City Kings, JL Zwane and Celtic United.

Cape Town City, who are amongst the favourites coming into this tournament, have what look like an easy group with SAFA Cape Town, Du Noon Sporting and Jomo’s Power.

The tournament is set to take place at Eric Park Belhar between 5 and 8 April, with the final set to be played on 9 April at Athlone Stadium.
