Mamelodi Sundowns extended their winning streak to 15 successive games after beating Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers themselves came into the game on the back of three successive wins, but Jose Riveiro opted to change his line-up and include Goodman Mosele in a three-man centre midfield.

Rulani Mokwena, meanwhile, recalled the likes of Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena to his starting XI.

The visitors got off the perfect start when Cassius Mailula scored the opener via a powerful shot, after being set up by Themba Zwane.

The latter may have been lucky to remain on the pitch after a bad stamp on Nkosinathi Sibisi, which saw him get a yellow card after 18 minutes.

Kermit Erasmus had the first notable chance for the Buccaneers, but his header went passed the goal in the 21th minute.

Pirates thought they should’ve had a penalty when Monare appeared to have been brought down, but the referee rightfully waved played on

The Buccaneers came out powerfully in the second half, but chances by Tapelo Xoki and Monnapule Saleng didn’t trouble Williams,

Downs themselves remained dangerous with Mailula having the best chance to add a second but his shot in the 83rd minute was saved by Sipho Chaine.

The win sees Downs extend their winning run to 15 and a massive 27 points on the log, having two games in hand.

They are now also 24 points clear of second-placed Richard Bay.
