Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies put JVW FC to the sword in a seven-goal thriller to reduce the gap between themselves and University of Western Cape (UWC) at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table to just three points.

Boitumelo Rabela scored a brace, while Karabo Makhurubetshi, Hlogi Mashigo, Lebogang Ramalepe and Miche Minnes registered their names on the score-sheet, as they thrashed the Blue Diamonds 6-1 in Pretoria, making it three successive matches where Downs have scored six times.

Sundowns remain in second position with 60 points from 23 matches, the same number of games with UWC ahead of them. This makes for an interesting week ahead, as they meet in a top-of-the-table clash in the mother city.

Meanwhile Janine Van Wyk scored the consolation goal, as her side remained in third spot on the log with 53 points in 25 outings.

Ma-Indies Ladies’ relegation was confirmed by their 2-0 defeat away at City Lads. The Giyani-based outfit needed to win and hope the result in the match between Thunderbirds Ladies and Copperbelt Ladies favours them. However they did not handle business on their side, while the Eastern Cape-based side won their match 3-1.

Ma-Indies, who came up the same season with JVW, are rooted at the foot of the table with just eight points in 27 outings. Ma-Indies are one of the oldest women’s clubs in South Africa, having produced the Banyana Banyana duo of Noko Matlou and Ramalepe.

Thunderbirds are just above the relegation zone with 20 points from 27 outings, while the rookies from Limpopo are above them on the table with 21 points from 26 encounters.
