Defending DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have dropped points for a second time this season, drawing 1-1 with Sekhukhune United.

Sundowns dominated possession in the first half of the tie, with Sekhukhune happy to sit back and defend deep.

Peter Shalulile had the ball in the bag go the net after 17 minutes but the linesman had the flag up for offside in the build-up.

Downs were in complete control of the match without creating too many clearcut opportunities, with an Aubrey Modiba shot flying above the goal.

Sundowns eventually opened the scoreline just before half-time when Shalulile converted from close range following a cross by Gaston Sirino, who was played in by a no-look pass from Themba Zwane.

Linda Mntambo scored immediately after half-time after Downs lost the ball from their own kick-off and Figo was set up by Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Sirino had a chance to score Downs second but his effort from outside the box only skimmed the top of the net in the 61st minute.

Masandawana came close to scoring in the 89th minute but a cross by Shalulile was cleared in the last second by Denwin Farmer. Mbule saw a dangerous shot from range saved by Toaster Nsabata.

Downs continued to dominate but also struggled to create clearcut chances, leading to more points dropped.

The points sees Downs climb to seven points on the log, three behind leaders AmaZulu, while Sekhukhune picked up their fifth of the season.
