Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League opponents Wydad Athletic Club have sacked their head coach Juan Carlos Garrido.

The club had a board meeting on Friday where they decided on making the changes in the dugout over internal clashes with the Spanish coach.

Garrido was in charge of 13 games, winning eight, drawing four and losing just one – the 1-0 first-leg defeat against Simba SC in the CAF Champions League quarter-final.

Wydad overturned their deficit at home after beating Simba 1-0 and progressing on penalties to set up a semi-final with Sundowns.

However, Garrido has been sacked after Wydad failed to go at the top of the Botola Pro League with their 1-1 draw against leaders ASFAR on Wednesday.

It is understood that the majority of players had turned against Garrido and the club have already replaced him with former ASFAR coach Sven Vanderbroeck.

The Belgian tactician will be on the sidelines when Wydad will host Downs at the Stade V Mohamed next week Saturday in the first leg of their CAFCL semi-final.
