‘Don’t sleep on Kaizer Chiefs…they might win the league’ – Ex-Pirates star warns

Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang Mokoena has warned the Buccaneers and Mamelodi Sundowns to watch out for Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership title fight.

Amakhosi are considered outside favourites for the title, but their two league wins this month have seen them climb to second on the log.

The Glamour Boys are just two points behind log leaders Sundowns and another good run of form might see them top the table for the first time this season.

Speaking on Soccer Beat, “Cheeseboy” Mokoena said Chiefs could surprise Pirates and Masandawana at the end of the season.

“With Chiefs lurking behind these (title favourites) but okay, they are on top of Pirates for now with Pirates having two games in hand, but with Chiefs being in the top three, they stand a good chance because there’s no pressure on them,” he said.

“Everybody is expecting Chiefs to fight for the top eight you know, but they are slowly creeping in there and by the time you open your eyes, they will be five games remaining and Chiefs will probably be sitting second or third on the log, or it might be Chiefs on top and Pirates second.”

Amakhosi won their midweek game against Marumo Gallants 1-0, which saw them replace the Buccaneers in second place.

The ex-Pirates and Downs winger feels Chiefs players are going into the next matches feeling confident that they can take the fight to the two title favourites.

“It is a possibility and I’m sure they not going to say it loud as a team but the boys at Naturena believe that they can win the league,” Mokoena added.

Chiefs and Pirates play each other next month in the first Soweto Derby of the season.

Do you think Chiefs are the dark horses?
