Donn Hoping For Change Of Fortune Against AmaZulu

SuperSport United midfielder Jesse Donn says they are looking to turn their form around when they face AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership this weekend.

It has not been the best of starts to 2022 for the Tshwane team, who after winning their round of 32 Nedbank Cup game against Maritzburg United, have lost two straight league games, against Maritzburg and most recently Royal AM.

But Donn says that while the results have been against them, he feels they were also a bit unlucky.

“Ja, it was a tough loss on the weekend,” Donn told the club’s media department.

“I think particularly because we played quite well, created good chances, but just didn’t capitalise.

“And I think when you look back at the game and look back at the stats, you realize that we were the more dominant team.

“So it’s frustrating to come away not only with the loss, but like to lose 2-0, that always leaves a sting. So definitely wasn’t ideal. But hoping to bounce back this weekend.

“I think, looking forward to this weekend, AmaZulu, we know are a good team, they’ve done fairly well, especially in the CAF. But we also know they’ve been playing lots of games.

“And so the freshness might play into into our favour. That might be one of the deciding factors. But I think for us to be focusing on ourselves and what we can do, we often do say it, but like I said, the last game we played quite well, created opportunities, but the difference was that we didn’t take opportunities.

“And so moving into this game, we really focused on continuing to play and perform the same way we have been by just being more crucial, upfront and just taking our chances, because that’s going to be the difference, not just against AmaZulu, but moving forward as a team.

“And so, yeah, I think it’s really important that we get the result this weekend. Unfortunately, we haven’t had the best start to the new year, and haven’t had the best run of form for the past couple of games, but we’ve been performing well. So we really want to transfer that into results.

“And so it’s important for us to hopefully turn it around this weekend. And we can then start moving on a better run, start getting momentum and hopefully finish closer to the top three than we are at the moment.”
