Dolly Responds To Doctor’s Criticism Of Chiefs Stars

Kaizer Chiefs captain Keagan Dolly has opened up on how the players have dealt with criticism of late amid club legend Doctor Khumalo questioning the quality of certain individuals.

After the lackluster 0-0 draw with AmaZulu in their 2nd leg MTN8 semi-final last week that saw them dumped out the competition in the away goals rule, Khumalo stated the Chiefs of yesteryear always had a difference-maker within their ranks, someone who could take the game by the scruff of its neck and inspire the team to victory.

With Chiefs in fifth place, seven points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their clash against fierce rivals Orlando Pirates, captain Dolly, who himself has been questioned about his inconsistencies said the players are dealing with the noise in the ways they can – by looking for collective and individual improvement to their game.

“With us, as players, we control what we can control and that’s our emotions within the club as players you know, and our performances,” Dolly said ahead of the Soweto derby.

“I don’t think there’s any player [in the squad] who wants to go out on the field and not do well for the club. Throughout the season we’ve been doing work but it’s a process, we’ve been building, and we’ve got new players.

“Here and there we’ve had to change because of different opponents that we played, different tactics that we use and I think once we get it right we’ll start winning again. I think we create enough chances and once we start scoring goals, things will go our way again.”

The 29-year-old winger has scored 12 goals and registered six assists in 43 games for Amakhosi since joining the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract with Ligue.1 side Montpellier in July 2021.
