Kaizer Chiefs forward Keagan Dolly says he is embracing the challenge to lead the club to brighter days ahead of the Soweto Derby on Saturday.
Dolly, 30, joined Chiefs as a marquee signing in July 2021 after four years with Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
He looked poised to become the talismanic figure alongside Khama Billiat to usher the club into a new era under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter but things haven’t really gone to script.
Since Arthur Zwane’s succeeded the two-time DStv Premiership winner, they’ve lost Billiat for the season through injury and Dolly has been made somewhat of a scapegoat through their inconsistent season.
“Obviously I know coming to Chiefs there will be pressure, based on where I’ve played before, based on how I performed in my past, but I take it,” Dolly said in response to iDiski Times when asked about his dream move turning somewhat sour.
“It’s something new to me, it’s a challenge I need to deal with and I feel like I’m dealing well with it. I don’t feel like it’s making me feel bad towards the situation or anything, it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to dealing with.
“I think I’ve been doing well but a lot of times the team isn’t doing well, the blame comes to me.
“But I take it, I’m one of the captains, I’m one of the senior players, I come with experience and it’s part of the game, I just need to soldier on.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 51 games across all competitions for the Soweto giants since being lured back to South Africa.
