Kaizer Chiefs ended their five-match winless run in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Amakhosi have been reeling since the return of fans in the league with four straight defeats, the first of which coincided with the sacking of Stuart Baxter as head coach.
Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard were duly tasked to lead the team on an interim basis but with losses to Stellenbosch, Golden Arrows and Cape Town City – the pressure intensified.
However, Keagan Dolly’s long-range deflected effort in the 77th minute proved the much-needed reprieve as the technical bench and everyone associated with the Soweto giants breathed a collective sigh of relief.
The fans who came out to supporters found their voice after the goal but it could have been so different had Gallants not taken a glorious chance as early as the sixth minute when Mahlatse Makudubela missed from close range.
However, Chiefs would not be concerned with how the win arrived as they moved three points behind second-placed Royal AM and two behind Cape Town City albeit having played a game more.
