Doctor Criticises Broos Over Timm Debut

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has criticised Hugo Broos for making a u-turn from wanting to focus on young players to recall Themba Zwane and hand Miguel Timm his debut.

Timm, 30, made his international debut in Bafana’s 2-1 win over Mozambique and featured in the final friendly of the year against Angola, while Zwane returned to the national team in September after Broos admitted ‘only fools don’t change their mind’.

Even though both players impressed in national colours, Khumalo has questioned Broos’ u-turn and switching his focus onto older players after initially saying he would give youth a chance in the early days of his reign.

“We have a coach now, who came to the country. First thing he said is that he believes in the youth,” he said on On The Couch, where he discussed Bafana’s demise as well as several topics around the FIFA World Cup.

“A couple of months down the line he changes somersault, he brings back the Zwanes, the Ethan Brooks are nowhere to be seen.

“We’re talking about (Eden) Hazard, who is a Belgium top player at 31, with more than 50 caps. He’s saying thank you very much, he’s calling it quits.

“Three weeks ago, South Africa gave Miguel (Timm), who is 31 (note: Timm is 30) his first cap. Come on guys…

“I can give you names of the players of the very same coach said he doesn’t want old players, he opted to have a 22-year-old boy on the bench and he gave a 31-year-old his debut in a friendly match.

“You tell me this a country that has a plan.”
