Dludlu names Bantwana squad for Kenya WC qualifier clash | Breaking News

The South African U17 National Women’s Team head coach Siphiwe Dludlu has announced the Bantwana squad set to face Kenya in the first round of the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier.

Bantwana will go head-to-head with the East Africans in the first leg at the beginning of March with the return leg scheduled for 19 March 2022.

Dludlu had to build her squad from scratch after the previous players had graduated to the U20 National Team.

The 34-year-old mentor selected her squad from different league ranks namely the Pan African Schools Football Championships, Hollywoodbets Super League, the just-ended Sasol League National Championships and other girls’ tournaments held around the country.

“We have called up a fairly new group of players from our last selection camp,” said Dludlu.

‘’It is always a challenge to build a National U17 Team because players are still in the developmental phase and we are also sensitive to their schooling schedules. But we believe this group of players will be able to adapt to what is needed at the national level.

“We have travelled around the country in the past few weeks, watching different tournaments and ticking boxes on the criteria of player we are looking for. We believe that the squad that we have selected will be the dawn of the next generation of Bantwana.”

The 7th edition of the Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup will be hosted in India after it was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
