DJ Zandile “Zandimaz” Mazithulela is taking a break from her music career to recover from brain tumour surgery.
She told TshisaLIVE that she had surgery in early March after having seizures in the UK in 2022 and again in Zambia a few weeks later.
“We thought it was just fatigue, but then I went to see my doctor, and they found a tumour. For a year, I took a break, but things got worse with anxiety affecting my nervous system. I was going through different emotions and couldn’t walk properly,” she said.
“I went back to my doctor, and they said it was getting to the point where they couldn’t do anything about it. The operation could have been fatal, and I prayed for it to be successful. It was a seven-hour surgery. I stayed in the ICU for five days, then went home. I’m glad I’m on the road to recovery.”
The Emathandweni hitmaker said that the tumour made it hard for her to perform and record, leading to depression and a loss of confidence.
“I took this long break because I couldn’t perform as I couldn’t stand for long and couldn’t wear heels. My confidence went down, and it frustrated me. A lot of people didn’t know I was going through this tough time.”
DJ Zandimaz, 32, thanked her husband for his support, saying he has been her main source of strength during the difficult time.
