- Alleged mastermind in the DJ Sumbody murder case Katiso “KT” Molefe has been denied bail.
- The court cited a flight risk and potential for witness intimidation.
- The suspect, Katiso “KT” Molefe, remains in custody until September.
A man accused of orchestrating the 2022 murder of prominent South African musician, DJ Sumbody (real name Oupa John Sefoka), has been denied bail.
Katiso “KT” Molefe appeared before the Alexandra Magistrates Court, where Magistrate Renier Boshoff ruled he must remain in custody.
The decision was based on concerns that Molefe, 61, poses a significant flight risk and could interfere with witnesses. Boshoff said Molefe failed to prove why he should be released on exceptional circumstances.
The court heard evidence linking him to organised crime, specifically drug networks and other homicides, including the killing of another DJ known as DJ Vintos.
Molefe is widely believed to be the mastermind behind the hit on DJ Sumbody, who was shot dead in a hail of bullets in a highly publicised incident.
Magistrate Boshoff’s ruling highlighted the seriousness of the charges and the potential danger Molefe poses to the public. Molefe will be held in jail until his next court appearance on 18 September, as the investigation continues.
The high-profile nature of the case has drawn considerable public attention, with many watching closely for a resolution and justice for DJ Sumbody’s family and friends.
