DJ Prie Nkosazana finds meaning in Amalanga
The inspiration behind Amalanga comes from the unpredictable nature of being a musician. DJ Prie Nkosazana explains to BONA that artists can go months without bookings, only to experience a busy season filled with opportunities.
“Some days are rough as a musician,” she says, describing the financial uncertainty that comes with inconsistent work.
International performances have helped her navigate these challenges, particularly when working with promoters who value professionalism and work ethic over trends.
For DJ Prie Nkosazana, the song is a reminder that difficult circumstances can change and that staying authentic matters.
“Stay true to yourself, and somehow God will eventually touch people’s hearts to help you,” she shares. She also credits her family and management team for supporting her through mental health struggles and challenges within the industry.
Celebrating African heritage through music
Beyond DJing and producing, Prie has developed her percussion skills to distinguish herself in the industry.
“I decided to be a better percussionist so I could stand out,” she explains.
Her use of indigenous drums is equally intentional, allowing her to incorporate her cultural identity into her performances.
“I love being a Black African girl, so indigenous drums resonate with my roots and culture,” she shares.
Living overseas and having performed in Ghana and Dubai has strengthened her desire to represent her heritage on international stages. She hopes her music will showcase African culture while introducing audiences to sounds that connect with her roots.
