The fallout between DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto is worsening, with both artists disagreeing over music ownership rights.
It started when Samthing said that DJ Maphorisa didn’t give him the masters to his Isiphithiphiti album, even though he had paid him.
DJ Maphorisa responded, saying Samthing wanted to control all the masters.
‘Samthing Soweto, please don’t treat us like children. I asked you two to three years ago to send an invoice so we could pay you. Why do you want to own everything? Do we work for you?’ he said in a video.
Maphorisa also mentioned the need to settle payments for songs like Amantombazane and Emcimbini.
He warned Samthing that if they didn’t settle soon, he might lose out. Maphorisa said he was frustrated, accusing Samthing of acting like the victim and making things difficult.
Fans were surprised when Samthing wasn’t credited on the amapiano song Amalanga Awafani, even though he sang on it.
Mas Musiq announced the song, naming other artists like Lawd Weezy, Star Quality, and DJ Maphorisa.
Samthing shared his disappointment with a broken heart emoji on social media, explaining that the song’s release was delayed due to issues with songwriting credits.
DJ Maphorisa said Samthing contributed little to the song and had unfairly blamed Mas Musiq.
He added that Samthing owns the song’s master, but his behaviour has made working together difficult.
