American hip-hop producer DJ Khaled has given special mention to Mamelodi Sundowns as one of the contestants at the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.
Masandawana are among the 32 teams from six confederations to take part in the global club competition in the United States of America.
Sundowns, Al Ahly, Rhulani Mokwena’s Wydad Casablanca and Esperance will be the four African teams at the tournament.
“This will be the greatest football club composition of all time,” DJ Khaled said on coal media while promoting the Club World Cup.
“It’s happening right here in the USA in 2025. Thirty-two of the best clubs in the world will compete right here to become the first true club world champions.
“I cannot wait to see my boys Real Madrid, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Hilal, Seattle Sounders, Auckland City, Boca Juniors take it to the world.”
It is not the first time for the American record executive to give a shout-out to Sundowns.
Two seasons ago, he produced a video clip congratulating the Tshwane giants for winning a sixth-straight Premier Soccer League title using his trademark ‘Another One’ line.
Interestingly, the Club World Cup will have a strong South African presence starting with Sundowns, Al Ahly who are home to Percy Tau and Esperance who have Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana in their books.
The Wydad technical team led by Mokwena is dominated by South Africans including assistant coach Sinethemba Badela, technical director Allan Freese fitness trainer Sibusiso Mahlangu performance analyst Sibusiso Makitla and goalkeeper coach Sean Louw.
