Stellenbosch FC are set to release Nigeria international forward Stanley Dimgba amongst the long list of player exits at the end of the 2021/22 season.
The 29-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season in the South African top flight upon his arrival in November 2020 during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa.
Despite the difficulties in which he arrived, the former Enyimba star impressed with seven goals in 23 games, which included four goals in four games during March 2021 and walked away with the club’s top scorer award for the season.
However, the arrival of Juan Lete Ortiz in January this year has pushed the player down the pecking order and he’s not started in each of their last seven league fixtures as the likes of Ortiz, Ashley Du Preez and Junior Mendieta have been preferred in various roles in attack.
With Dimgba holding one of the five available foreign quota spots, he’s expected to depart, as reported in the iDiski Times Edition 54, alongside Zambia international Nathan Sinkala upon the expiry of his contract as Stellies look to freshen up their squad for next season.
Mark Van Heerden, Robyn Johannes, Sibusiso Mthethwa, and Grandwald Scott were also informed earlier this season that their contracts will not be renewed while Alan Robertson already left for United City FC in the Philippines back in March upon being released four months before the expiry of his contract.
