Nandi Nyembe’s memorial and funeral details announced

The family of veteran actress Nandi Nyembe has confirmed arrangements for her final farewell following her passing on August 24 at the age of 75.

A memorial service in her honour will take place at The Market Theatre in Newtown on Thursday, while her burial is set for August 30 at a location still to be announced.

Tributes have continued to pour in since news of her death, with colleagues and fans remembering her as a trailblazer whose performances left a lasting mark on South African television and theatre.

Singer Cici shared a heartfelt message, writing: “I’ll tell you what’s more painful than death. It is dedicating your life to your work but when the final curtain call comes you have nothing to show for it. Creatives need to be treated better, especially actors. How long shall it be? Rest in peace Mama.”

Actor Luthuli Dlamini also expressed his grief, posting: “Missing you already. Lala ngoxolo ma.”
