Deputy president Paul Mashatile had to be rushed to a hospital in Limpopo after collapsing while addressing the N’wamitwa Day celebrations on Saturday..
Mashatile was seen losing his balance, but his bodyguards swiftly intervened, carrying him to a waiting car that rushed him to the hospital.
The exact hospital and his current condition are unknown, but it is suspected that he was taken to Tzaneen Medi Clinic, approximately 20 minutes from the event. MC Rose Tshabalala attributed the incident to the heatwave, reassuring guests not to worry.
The program could not continue as planned and executive mayor Pule Shayi of Mopani District Municipality delivered a vote of thanks, concluding the event.
The ceremony, held at Valoyi Cultural Village in N’wamitwa Village outside Tzaneen, marked the 15th celebration of N’wamitwa Day.
This event honors the successes and cultures of the local people, as led by Hosi Phyllia N’wamitwa II, one of the country’s first female chiefs.
Notably, this is the same location where Mashatile held his wedding last year.
