  • Tshwane residents are facing low water pressure and intermittent outages following operational challenges on the Palmiet system.
  • The city says multiple reservoirs and supply zones have been affected, with technical teams working alongside Rand Water to stabilise the system.
  • Authorities have mobilised all available resources and promise regular updates as restoration efforts continue.

Residents in the City of Tshwane are experiencing little to no water due to operational challenges on the Palmiet system, which were encountered on Sunday, 25 January 2025, and are currently under system recovery.

Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the impact of these challenges is being felt across multiple reservoirs and supply zones and is not limited to the initially affected areas.

“Some communities are currently experiencing low water pressure and intermittent water outages as the system stabilises. The city’s technical teams are on site and continue to closely monitor the situation,” said Mashigo.

Investigations are underway to assess the extent of the reduced supply, trace the source of the reservoir depletion, and implement the necessary corrective measures in coordination with Rand Water.

“Restoring stable and reliable water supply remains a top priority. All available resources have been mobilised to support system recovery and minimise inconvenience to residents,” Mashigo added.
