  • Protests over chronic water supply issues have led to road closures in Westbury, Johannesburg, as frustrated residents demand action.
  • The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has urged motorists to avoid several routes in the area where a heavy police presence is monitoring the situation.
  • The water-related problems, which also affect Westdene and Claremont, are not new, with some residents claiming they have been ongoing for years.

Residents of Westbury, along with nearby communities like Westdene and Claremont, are grappling with ongoing water supply issues that have been plaguing the area for an extended period.

The lack of a consistent water supply has led to significant frustration among residents, with some claiming the problem has existed for years.

While Ebony residents protest over dry tapes, Johannesburg water continues to demand them to pay their water bills.

This is despite not having consistent water supply since January. Frustrated community members have taken to the streets, blocking major routes into Ivory Park with stones and burning tyres.

In response to the protests and public unrest, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has urged motorists to avoid the Westbury area.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that several roads, including Feul, Harmony, Perth, Main Road, and Portland Avenue, have been closed.
