Deal For Royal AM Target Collapses

Defender Samkelo Mgwazela’s move from AmaZulu to Royal AM has hit the snag, with the player set to return to Usuthu.

Mgwazela was allowed to train with Royal AM for some time and if they were happy, they needed to signal their intention back to Usuthu to either go for a loan or the permanent signing.

However, no deal has been reached, according to iDiski Times sources, and the player will go back to Usuthu to train and fight for his place.

Instead, Royal AM have signed Mthokozisi Dube, who arrived at the same time as Mgwazela for assessment, as well as Sibusiso Magaqa. The latter’s AmaZulu contract had been terminated, with the player opting to go back to Royal AM.

Magaqa previously played for Thwihli Thwahla when the club thought they had won promotion in the 2020/21 season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but instead it was Sekhukhune United who won it via the much reported court case.

AmaZulu, unlike Magaqa, rate Mgwazela highly despite weight issues, and that was evident when coach Benni McCarthy was the club’s head coach from December 2020 before leaving in March last year.

But things have not been the same for Mgwazela, with Usuthu signing Abbubaker Mobara, Veluyeke Zulu and Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the past two windows, leaving him marginalised in the side. Injuries have also not helped his case to claim a place in the team.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu have completed the signing of Congolese international Guily Manziba, and the former SuperSport United attacker even featured over the weekend in the 1-1 draw with Richards Bay.

Manziba, who shares the same agent as Romain Folz, had been waiting for his work permit to be issued after everything was agreed between both parties.
