De Sa – Don’t Undermine Zwane Just Because He’s Local

Iran national team assistant coach Roger De Sa has insisted Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane deserves his fair chance and shouldn’t be undermined just because he’s local.
De Sa was part of the Iranian technical team that was eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
After losing to England in their opening game 6-2, they bounced back strongly beating Wales by 2-0, but lost to USA by 1-0 to end their competition.
The former Orlando Pirates head coach has been out of the country for some time, as he was also the assistant coach to Carlos Queiroz in the Egypt national team before the pair move on to Iran.
However, upon his return he sat down with iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco and Rob Delport to discuss many thinks around coaching – including how De Sa feels his countryman Zwane has done at Chiefs so far.
“I think it’s all good. I mean, for me, that’s the way it should be long ago. It’s all good that Arthur Zwane is there, and he’s come through the ranks, was an ex-player, and he’s worked his way up,” De Sa told iDiski Times.

“I mean, I’m all for it. I think that’s how it should be, there’s nothing wrong with it. And his results aren’t going to be worse than if you had to bring in a foreigner.
“So why not give him an opportunity and give him the chance to do it. But don’t undermine him just because he’s a local.
“Just because he doesn’t wear a suit and a tie, and he hasn’t got an accent, he’s not good enough? I think you got to respect all of them.
“And I think Pitso for one, myself, and one or two others that have moved on to bigger stages, I mean, the respect that you find when you travel abroad, compared to in your own backyard, is actually frightening.”
