The first-ever South Africa Fashion Awards (SAFA) will bring global glamour to Sandton this October. Set for Saturday, 4 October 2025, the awards will take place at the luxurious Hotel Sky.

The event marks a historic moment as the internationally recognised World Fashion Awards arrives in Africa for the first time. South Africa has been chosen as the starting point with David Tlale receiving the highest honour.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN FASHION AWARDS

SAFA aims to spotlight homegrown talent while supporting a powerful cause. Proceeds will benefit the Diamond Children’s Foundation, which raises awareness for homeless children.

“The South Africa Fashion Awards celebrate more than fashion. They honour creativity, innovation, and community impact,” said Republic Africa in a statement.

TALENTED NOMINEES AT THE FASHION AWARDS

The nominee list highlights the best of South African style. Leading designers include Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, Laduma Ngxokolo, Gert-Johan Coetzee and David Tlale.

Stars of styling, modelling, photography, and branding also feature in many categories. Some stand-out categories include Best Stylist, Best Emerging Designer, and Best Fashion Influencer.

Popular names in the running include Bonang Matheba, Sarah Langa, Kim Jayde, and Refilwe Modiselle.

THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR DAVID TLALE

Two major honours have already been announced. David Tlale will take home the Lifetime Achievement Award for a career spanning over 20 years, according to his website.

Laduma Ngxokolo, known globally for MAXHOSA AFRICA, will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Award.

Luxury sponsor Dechavel has also confirmed a three-year partnership with SAFA. Selected winners will receive a Dechavel timepiece worth over R600,000, a prize set to elevate the glamour of the evening.

SOUTH AFRICAN FLAIR FOR FASHION

Voting for the fashion awards nominees opened on 9th September through Telephonos, the official voting platform.

Organisers urge the public to support their favourites. “This event belongs to the people as much as it does to the designers. South Africans have the power to crown the winners,” said the SAFA team.

The winners for the fashion awards will be revealed on 4th October during a glittering ceremony that promises to showcase the very best of South African fashion.
