David Tlale honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Fashion designer David Tlale cemented his status as a South African fashion icon on 4 October.

Known for his bold, distinctive designs, Tlale’s award marks a defining moment in his journey as one of Africa’s most influential fashion visionaries.

He received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural South Africa Fashion Awards (SAFA) hosted at Hotel Sky, Sandton.

The event marked a major milestone as the internationally recognised World Fashion Awards, as it debuted in Africa for the very first time.

Held in celebration of homegrown creativity, the ceremony shone its spotlight on Tlale’s illustrious career spanning over two decades.

People know him for his bold designs, dramatic runway shows, and consistent trailblazing in the global fashion arena.

David Tlale’s recognition is a testament to both his artistry and his influence in championing African luxury design.

OTHER HONOUREES

The organisers presented the award in a glittering setting that also honoured other industry greats like Laduma Ngxokolo of MAXHOSA AFRICA.

Ngxokolo received the Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Award, according to the National Post.

Guests included celebrated names such as Gert-Johan Coetzee, Refilwe Modiselle, and Kim Jayde, with the evening pulsating with South African glamour and creative energy.

With luxury sponsor Dechavel awarding winners a bespoke timepiece worth over R600,000, the evening underscored the prestige and evolving global presence of South African fashion.

David Tlale has dressed an impressive list of local and international stars, cementing his reputation as one of South Africa’s most visionary designers.

His creations have graced celebrities such as Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha, Minnie Dlamini, and Lalla Hirayama, all of whom have worn his couture on red carpets and major events.
