Maritzburg United veteran Clayton Daniels says no one is expecting them to pull off a result against Mamelodi Sundowns, so they can go out and play with freedom when the two teams meet in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.
The log leaders have lost just once this season, and are currently 18 points ahead of second-placed Royal AM, while Maritzburg are twelfth, 33 points off Sundowns.
Daniels says there has been good work done at training and it’s important for them to go out there and be competitive at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
“Ja, yes, you can see at training, everyone is working hard, everyone is putting his hand up to play the next game,” Daniels told the club’s media department.
“Some good competition out at training so ja, the preparation so far, with the competitiveness and the intensity is there.
“So, ja, we’re looking forward to a good game.”
The former Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United defender adds that no one is expecting them to get a result against Sundowns, but that could actually work in their favour.
“For us, there’s two teams, you have to go there and compete, first of all we have to compete, doesn’t matter who we play against,” he continued.
“And second of all, it’s our home game, and I think we should take advantage of our home games. You know, it’s a free hit us, no one expects us to go out there and beat Mamelodi Sundowns.
“So for us, it’s a free hit, and we can leave everything out on the field, coming off, hopefully with the three points.”
