D’Angelo’s death comes seven months after his son’s mother, Angie Stone, was killed in a car accident.
The son of late American R&B and neo-soul artist D’Angelo has spoken out following his father’s passing.
D’Angelo, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, died on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, at the age of 51.
He had been battling pancreatic cancer.
His representative announced the news, requesting privacy for the family.
“After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025,” the statement read.
In a statement shared with People magazine, the artist’s son, Michael Archer II, 27, said this year has not been easy on him.
Michael’s mother is the three-time Grammy-nominated singer Angie Stone.
“I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me.
“I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that,” he said according to the publication.

Tributes pour in for D’Angelo
Fans and celebrities have paid tribute to the singer on social media.
Beyoncé described D’Angelo as a pioneer of neo-soul whose work transformed rhythm and blues.
“We thank you for your beautiful music, your voice, your proficiency on the piano, your artistry… We will never forget you,” she wrote on her website.
Other artists, including Tyler, the Creator, Jamie Foxx, and Missy Elliott, also shared tributes online.
