Dame Julie Andrews scores first Emmy win for ‘Bridgerton’

Dame Julie Andrews has won the 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance. She has won this award for her role as Lady Whistledown in the Netflix hit series Bridgerton.

This marks her first Emmy win for the role after three previous nominations in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

JULIE ANDREWS WINS FIRST EMMY

The award was accepted on her behalf by presenter Craig Robinson at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony held in Los Angeles on 6 September.

Julie Andrews, who is turning 90 soon, records her parts remotely and has never met her Bridgerton co-stars in person. “I do all my recording far, far away from them”.

BRIDGERTON, THE HIT TV SHOW

Bridgerton is a Regency-era drama produced by Shonda Rhimes and based on Julia Quinn’s books. It follows the romantic escapades of high society families through the eyes of Lady Whistledown.

Julie Andrews voices the mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who drives the scandal and gossip in the Bridgerton series.

The actress praised the show’s beauty and the cast, calling them “wonderful” and “lovely people to work with”.

The other nominees in the category included Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), Maya Rudolph (Big Mouth), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Jeffrey Wright (What If…?), and Steven Yeun (Invincible).

JULIE ANDREWS’ IMPRESSIVE CAREER

Dame Julie Andrews is an iconic English actress and singer whose career has spanned over eight decades. She began as a child performer, debuting on the West End in 1948 and soon shining on Broadway, according to People.

She notably played Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Queen Guinevere in Camelot.

Her film breakthrough came with the beloved Disney classic Mary Poppins (1964). She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role.

Julie Andrews’ win at 89 years old is significant, earning her a third Emmy and highlighting her enduring talent in voice acting.

“I’m thrilled that they asked me,” expressing her delight in being part of Bridgerton.
