Dali Tambo suffers heart attack

Dali Tambo has been admitted to hospital after suffering a mild heart attack.

According to people close to him, Tambo is receiving medical care and is responding well to treatment.

His public relations team later confirmed that the health scare was linked to stress-induced hypertension, a condition doctors are now closely monitoring as part of his recovery.

Although the incident was described as mild, it has reignited public conversation about the intense pressures faced by high-profile figures operating across demanding industries such as media, business and technology.

Born on 1 March 1959, Tambo is widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential media personalities.

The son of revered ANC freedom fighters Adelaide and Oliver Tambo, he spent part of his early life in exile in the United Kingdom before returning to South Africa with his family.

He rose to national prominence as the host of the SABC television talk show People of the South, which became known for its thoughtful, in-depth conversations with leaders, thinkers and cultural figures from across Africa. The programme earned praise for its intellectual depth while remaining accessible to everyday viewers.

Following news of his hospitalisation, messages of support have poured in from fellow broadcasters, artists, entrepreneurs and members of the public, many wishing Tambo a full and speedy recovery as he focuses on his health.
