A father was shocked to find people taking pictures of his dead daughter to post on social media.
Koketso Manganyi, an 18-year-old student at Modilati High School in Stinkwater, Hammanskraal, was found stabbed to death near her home on Sunday, 8 September.
Her father, Mishack Chabalala, got a call telling him to hurry home. When he arrived, he saw people taking photos and videos of his daughter lying on the ground, covered in blood.
“I brought a blanket to cover her. She had stab wounds on her neck, chest, and stomach,” Chabalala said.
He took Koketso’s phone and called the last number that had contacted her.
“A man answered and said he was her boyfriend. When I asked him when he last saw her, he said he left her at a church nearby around 9.30pm,” Chabalala said.
“Her blood had dried, meaning she died during the night. There was a broken bottle of Stella beer, covered in blood, next to her, which might have been used to kill her.
“I’m devastated because she was my first child, and I had high hopes for her future.”
Arepfani Mufumadi, leader of an anti-gender-based violence group in Temba, said people are frustrated by the continued killings in their community.
“We will keep working with the police to stop this violence. As a mother, this affects me because it could happen to me, too,” she said.
Mufumadi said they are working with the community to find the murderer.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo had not responded to Scrolla.Africa’s request for comment by the time of publication.
