The DA has welcomed the dismissal of Khehla Sitole as national police commissioner. However, the party’s Andrew Whitfield says President Ramaphosa must disclose the reasons behind Sitole’s sacking. He says the public deserves to know whether he received a golden handshake.
The DA says Police Minister Bheki Cele must also be fired if the president is serious about rebuilding trust and credibility in the police.
It says the tit-for-tat political spat between Cele and Sitole has rendered the SAPS ungovernable. The opposition party is calling for a complete overhaul of the police top brass.
