DA MP slams Bathabile Dlamini’s leniency plea

The DA is calling for a harsh sentence for former Social Development Department Minister Bathabile Dlamini.

She was found guilty of perjury for lying at the 2017 inquiry into the Sassa social grants crisis.

The former minister is pleading for leniency, saying she earns just R110,000 a month.

DA MP and Member of Parliament’s Social Development Committee, Bridget Masango said: “For the former minister to say that she is poor because she earns R100,000 a month when these people, we are talking about 11 million of them, are some of them getting R420 a month… I think that is arrogance at best and victim mentality at worse.”
