The Democratic Alliance has been granted an interdict to stop a Johannesburg council sitting planned for Tuesday.
A motion of no confidence against Mayor Mpho Phalatse was expected to be tabled. Phalatse argued that self-appointed Acting Speaker Colleen Makhubele has no right to call the meeting.
The ANC and some smaller parties say Phalatshe has failed to do her job. But, DA-aligned parties such as Action SA say there are efforts to capture the city. Opposition parties are expected to hold a meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the matter.
