The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the appointment of Raymond Zondo as the country’s new Chief Justice. Party leader John Steenhuisen says Zondo is a man of integrity and will bring great leadership to the courts. Zondo assumes office on 1 April. I think it’s the right choice, it’s a safe pair of hands,” Steenhuisen said.
“Judge Zondo has a clear track record of showing no fear or favour in fighting corruption and maladministration.
He will go a long way in restoring faith in the judiciary. He has the confidence of South Africans, his term will be good for the judiciary and it’s a good choice by the president.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said he intends to nominate Supreme Court of Appeal President Mandisa Maya as Zondo’s deputy.
