Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards have roped in Owen Da Gama, iDiski Times has learnt.

The former Highlands Park head coach has been out of Premier Soccer League since leaving Sekhukhune United in June 2022.

The 61-year-old managed over five South African clubs, including the 1995 CAF Champions League winners Orlando Pirates.

This publication has learned that Da Gama has been appointed as the new head coach Black Leopards.

According to a source, former Zimbabwe international Rodwell Dhlakama was absent in yesterday’s training session and players were told that he went home for some personal issues – at this stage it is not clear, if he will come back.

The Limpopo-based side are sitting right at the bottom of the league table and collected just 13 points in 17 games that they’ve played.

Lidoda Duvha last won an official game in October 2022 when they defeated Tshakuma Tsha Mandzivhandila by 1-0 and are now without a win in 10 successive matches.

With 13 games to go Da Gama is expected to save the club’s status from relegation as they are three points behind 14th-placed Pretoria Callies.

Da Gama’s first game in charge will be a clash against second-placed Polokwane City at home on 19 February.
