Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz is keeping faith in Brandon Petersen despite the keeper’s recent mistakes.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper made costly errors against Sekhukhune United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
Some fans and former Amakhosi players have asked the coach to drop the captain, and replace him with either Bruce Bvuma or new signing Renaldo Leaner.
Da Cruz though is backing his keeper, and this week he affirmed that Petersen will remain Chiefs’ number one keeper.
“Peterson also made mistakes last season, but he also had a good campaign last season by securing a lot of points for his team. He is our captain and we trust him, I also spoke to him this past weekend about this,” he said as per SABC Sport.
Petersen helped Chiefs finish in the top three last season thanks to his brilliant saves. This season however, the Cape-born keeper has let in easy goals.

Ahead of their weekend fixture, Chiefs have the likes of Langelihle Phili, Thabiso Monyane and Flavio Silva injured.
“There are two types of injuries we are dealing with. There are the injuries players picked up last season and so it takes time for us to recover these players to 100%, and some injuries have also happened this season but our medical staff are trying to do their best. Although we have players out, we have complete trust in the squad.”
It remains to be seen if Petersen will be in goals for Chiefs in the coming matches.
