DA Adds R500 000 to Ekurhuleni Killings Reward
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has offered a R500 000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible for the deaths of eight women in Ekurhuleni.
The reward brings the total amount offered by the DA and the South African Police Service (SAPS) to R900 000.
DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Khathutshelo Rasilingwane announced the reward today, Wednesday outside Kempton Park Police Station, saying the offer was intended to encourage people with information to come forward.
The DA’s announcement follows a R400 000 reward announced by Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane on Tuesday as police investigate the deaths.
Eight women’s bodies have been discovered in different parts of Ekurhuleni since July, including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Rhodesfield and KwaThema.
Police are investigating the cases as part of a coordinated probe but have not confirmed that all the deaths are connected. One suspect has been arrested in connection with one of the cases, while police are also pursuing another person of interest.
Among the identified victims is 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who went missing on 9 September after leaving home for her usual run. Her body was later found in Rhodesfield and was positively identified by her family.
Police have appealed to families with missing relatives to come forward as only two of the eight victims have been identified so far.
The DA said it would consider information for its reward only if it had first been formally reported to SAPS, with proof of the report provided.
