About CSIR
Established in 1945 by the South African Parliament, the CSIR sees to it that the yearly grant given to the Department of Science and Technology by Parliament is utilized to fund knowledge generation, skills enhancement and scientific infrastructure. Other sources of funding come from contract research for the private and public sectors (both local and overseas) as well as from royalties, dividends and licenses provided by commercial companies and intellectual property management created by the CSIR.
The Institute has shown substantial growth with its research output, added value to society and transformation of its staff throughout its years of operation.
Based in Pretoria, the successful candidate will be part of CSIR’s Emerging Digital Technologies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution providing technical assistance to the Research and Development division in the areas of design, development, and execution of Digital Ledger Technology systems architecture and solutions.
Key duties and responsibilities
Create innovative solutions in DLT and keep updated with its emerging technologies
Make contributions to Science Engineering, and Technology (SET) output e.g. guidelines, reports, peer-reviewed publications, system requirements, and tech/software packages
Provide support to DLT-related research work
Carry out literature search as well as desktop research
Perform data collection and capture
Keep updated in the area of specialization in regards to enhanced approaches in methods, tools, and technologies
Who should apply?
To get considered for the role, applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:
Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or any equivalent study
An honour’s or master’s qualification is a definite plus
Preferably with DLT software development background in DLT technologies
Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals as well as programming skills
Good numeracy skills e.g. math, computer science, statistics
Able to work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team
Good problem skills; solutions-driven
Effective communication, writing, and presentation skills
