Crime bites: Man gets 10 years for rape and kidnapping

Bafokeng – The Bafokeng Regional Court sentenced a 33-year-old man to 10 years in prison for kidnapping and raping a two-year-old girl. He can’t own guns any longer, and his name goes on the child offenders list. The man took the girl while she was playing with friends in November 2022.

Tshilwavhusiki – Police are hunting poachers who killed a white rhino in Tshilwavhusiki last week. The rhino had been shot five times, and both its horns were removed.

Dunoon – Seven suspects were caught after extorting shop owners in Dunoon. They shot at police and disappeared, but were later arrested. Police found guns, a taxi, and cash. Four hurt suspects went to hospital. All seven will face court soon.

Pretoria – A former SANDF soldier, Leon Santos Conga, 48, got life in prison for raping and infecting his girlfriend with HIV in May 2017. He got 10 more years for attempted murder.

Ventersburg – Five suspects were caught after a farm robbery in Ventersburg on 20 September. Seven armed men tied up a caretaker and stole goods. Police are still looking for the other two suspects.

Giyani – A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Nwa-Marhang village, Limpopo, for raping a six-year-old girl. His parents turned him in. He was released into their supervision and will appear in court soon.
